Eamon O’Shea is a man with considered answers but even he admitted he could hardly have imagined Tipperary finishing top of Division 1A after losing to Cork by 12 points in February’s first round.

Asked if he was shocked by their position after five games, the manager responded: “Astounded! The start of the league, you know where we were [so] maybe I wasn’t that surprised.

“We’re still not at the level where some of the other teams are. We’re just going along nicely now, nothing spectacular. We’re trying to get better and we are getting better.
