Former GAA president Nickey Brennan claims there have been too many incidents of hurling referees not protecting players.

In October, Brennan said the incidents that led to Kilkenny players Michael Rice and TJ Reid picking up long-term injuries in last year’s All-Ireland semi-final and final were not handled properly by match officials.

He believes referees have to take more responsibility this year.
