GPA charter on agenda

The Gaelic Players’ Association (GPA) are set to request all county boards sign up to the players’ charter before the end of next January.

The issue is one of many items on the agenda at Friday’s annual general meeting in Dublin’s Gibson Hotel.

GPA’s head of communications Seán Potts said: “Issues arose about expenses in squads this year and they do have the risk of destabilising things.

“Players are aware and sensitive to the pressure county boards are under and expenses can be scheduled to suit county boards’ cashflows.

“However, what we can’t tolerate is no communication and this is something we want to bring focus on as squads start to gather again over the next couple of months.”

There will also be a motion put forward calling on the government to maintain the current level of funding to inter-county players in the form of grants.

Another motion is set to call on the GAA to look into the potential of combining Ulster underage inter-county hurling squads as a precursor to doing it at senior level.

“It’s seen as a way of addressing the hurling situation in the province,” said Potts.
