Moynihan won’t join Kerry set-up

Seamus Moynihan has confirmed he won’t be part of Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s Kerry management team next year.

Fitzmaurice had hoped the Glensflesk man would be available to come on board alongside Mikey Sheehy and Diarmuid Murphy as a selector.

However, family and work commitments have prevented the four-time All-Ireland winner from joining up with his former team-mate, Fitzmaurice.

“Work is taking up a lot of my time and I can’t make the commitment as much as I’d like to,” said Moynihan.

“I also have three small ones and they’re a great handful. So there’s no drama about the whole thing. Family and work have to take priority.”

Outgoing Mayo coach Cian O’Neill last week stopped short of saying he will be in the Kerry set-up next year but didn’t rule out a move.

Meanwhile Dublin football fans got their wish last night with confirmation that highly rated underage guru Jim Gavin will take charge of the senior team.

The All-Ireland U21-winning boss was ratified, as expected, at a county board meeting to succeed Pat Gilroy and will take the job for three years.

Anthony Daly was also reappointed last night as manager of the hurling team for a fifth straight season.

Meanwhile, Mick O’Dowd is being hotly-tipped in the county to succeed Seamus McEnaney as Meath senior football manager.

Elsewhere, a decision on whether or not Conor Counihan will be Cork football boss next season is unlikely to be discussed at tonight’s county board meeting.

Counihan’s official tenure ended after his side’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final defeat to Donegal.
