Doherty brothers give Tuam Stars the edge

Tuam Stars and Salthill-Knocknacarra meet in the Galway SFC final in three weeks after coming through semi-finals against Corofin and Killererin, respectively, at Tuam Stadium yesterday.

Doherty brothers give Tuam Stars the edge

Champions Corofin, bidding to reach their fifth final in a row, were sent crashing out as brothers Conor and Paul Doherty blasted home goals for Tuam Stars as they won by 2-6 to 0-9.

Tuam are the most prolific winners of the Galway SFC title with 25 crowns — although the last was in 1994 — but goals in either half yesterday were enough to see them advance.

Meanwhile, former Wolves soccer player Seamie Crowe blasted home 2-5 as Salthill-Knocknacarra reached their first Galway SFC final in seven years with a 3-10 to 0-10 win over Killererin

The 2006 All-Ireland club champions led by 1-5 to 0-6 at half time thanks to a goal from former Galway hurler David Tierney.

Padraic Joyce blasted a penalty off the woodwork for Killererin but there was really no way back for the 2010 champions after Crowe slotted home a 48th-minute penalty.

Crowe grabbed his second goal of the tie two minutes from time.
