Kavanagh blow for Tyrone

Sean Cavanagh is almost certainly out of Tyrone’s Ulster SFC clash with Armagh at the Athletic Grounds on June 10.

Kavanagh blow for Tyrone

The 2008 Footballer of the Year was playing for his club Moy against Derrytresk on Saturday afternoon when he fell awkwardly and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. It looks as though he has damaged his collarbone and shoulder in what was the last game for the county players ahead of that Ulster opener with their near neighbours.

Last August Cavanagh was bench-pressing weights while preparing for the International Rules series when he detached a tendon in his shoulder which required surgery and kept him on the sidelines for six months.

Meanwhile, Donegal midfielder Rory Kavanagh also picked up an injury in a club game yesterday.

Kavanagh lasted just nine minutes of St Eunan’s of Letterkenny’s 2-15 to 1-10 home win over Ardara before being carried to the dressing room. The 29-year-old is thought to have twisted his left ankle and was last night in Letterkenny General Hospital awaiting the results of an x-ray.

With Donegal due to take on Derry in Ballybofey in the Ulster championship quarter-final on June 16, manager Jim McGuinness will be looking for all his experienced players to be on board.
