O’Shea to play no part in Tribe backroom team

FORMER Tipperary coach Eamon O’Shea will not be part of any new Galway hurling management set-up.

O’Shea to play no part in Tribe backroom team

O’Shea, who lives in Galway city and who played a huge role in Tipperary’s All-Ireland success last year, had been mentioned as a possible member of the new Tribesmen management.

However, O’Shea’s name was not among the management teams put forward by the three contenders for the Galway job, when they were interviewed on Tuesday night.

Each of the three contenders delivered an hour long presentation with Galway U21 boss Anthony Cunningham naming his backroom team as former All Star defender Tom Helebert and Mattie Kenny, while Johnny Kelly of Portumna will have former hurler of the year Tony Keady and ex-Antrim boss Dinny Cahill on board should he get the nod.

Micheal Donoghue, who led Clarinbridge to the All-Ireland club title earlier this year, will have his club coach Noel Burke and former Galway forward Francis Forde, who was a selector with Joe Dooley in Offaly this year, on his backroom team if he is selected.

The seven-man committee who carried out the interviews will name the successor to John McIntyre when the Galway hurling board meets next Monday night.
