Moynihan looks to star men to lead Rathmore

RATHMORE manager Denis Moynihan is hoping his side can find inspiration from a neighbouring county when they face Mid Kerry in the Kerry SFC quarter-final tomorrow.

Moynihan looks to star men to lead Rathmore

Rathmore have never reached the last four during their 12-year existence as a senior club, yet Moynihan feels they can now push on. And he highlights an example from across the county bounds to psyche up his charges.

“You look at the Cork hurling final last Sunday and what Carrigtwohill did should give huge heart to every small club in the country. I was looking at the CIT team which was full of county stars but Carrigtwohill had great heart and determination. It just shows what you can do with hard work. This is only our second year reaching the Kerry senior quarter-finals and we want to progress to the semi-final.”

Rathmore’s hopes of success are boosted by their club championship semi-final win against Dr Crokes last week.

“It was an excellent boost for us,” admits Moynihan. “Beating a club of the standard of Crokes is always great and it’s given us good momentum. But to be honest our performance was poor and it was more about Crokes giving us the game and us taking it. We need to improve on that before we face Mid Kerry. Having Tom (O’Sullivan) and Aidan (O’Mahony) back with us is a huge factor. They were outstanding last Saturday and it can’t have been easy for them after the disappointment of the All-Ireland final. But they came back fully focused and are eager to drive the club on. We’ve a very young team apart from the two of them. But the likes of Mark Reen and John Moynihan are great prospects, who have a great attitude with football at the top of their list of priorities and they really look up to Tom and Aidan. We’ll be hoping that combination pays off for us again.”
