Informed sources suggest the St Finbarr’s man has all the credentials to take over the position vacated by Davy Fitzgerald last month.

Speculation was rife earlier this week that former Déise selector Michael Ryan was set to be appointed. However, a source close to the appointments committee has told the Irish Examiner that Ryan is not a leading candidate for the position.
