McQuillan takes charge of final clash

CAVAN referee Joe McQuillan will take charge of his first All-Ireland final when Kerry and Dublin duel on September 18.

The Kill Shamrocks man will be assisted by fellow whistlers David Coldrick from Meath and Monaghan’s Pat McEnaney as linesmen with the former also the standby referee.

Waterford’s Maurice Condon has been assigned the duty of sideline official.

Barring a replay, it will mark respected Corduff official McEnaney’s last appearance on the championship panel as he has reached the age cap of 50.

Potentially his last refereeing role came in the Kerry v Limerick All-Ireland quarter-final last month.

This year’s Leinster final was McQuillan’s second in his career while he has also taken charge of a Munster decider along with All-Ireland U21 and club showdowns.

McQuillan has already taking charge of two Dublin games this year — the Leinster final win over Wexford, where he gave an excellent display of refereeing, and the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat of Tyrone.

McQuillan’s umpires on the day will be his Shamrocks’ club-mates Tommy O’Reilly, Ciarán Brady, TP Gray and Jimmy Galligan from Killygarry. Meanwhile, Pádraig Hughes of Armagh will officiate in the curtain-raiser minor final between Dublin and Tipperary.
