Dublin likely to remain unchanged
Despite major pushes by Philly McMahon and Michael Darragh Macauley in training, the St Vincent’s man is set to place his trust in the 15 that performed so impressively in this month’s quarter-final.
Should Gilroy go with the same side, it will be the first time he has done so in this year’s championship, having made personnel changes for all four previous games.
Forward Eoghan O’Gara is likely to be named on the bench after making a full recovery from the wrist injury he picked up in the Leinster final win over Wexford.
Cian O’Sullivan, who was called up for the Tyrone game in the place of Paul Conlon, should keep his spot at left corner-back after a solid display last day out.
Meanwhile, Davy Fitzgerald is expected to meet with Waterford board officials this weekend before making any decision on whether he wishes to continue with the county.
The Sixmilebridge man, who is hotly tipped to take over the Clare job vacated by his former team-mate Ger O’Loughlin, has led the Déise to three All-Ireland semi-finals and a final since taking over in June 2007.
Fitzgerald was given a one-year extension to his previous two-year term at the end of last year. He is believed to have the backing of the players as well as a number of board officials.
However, speculation is strong he will not be manager next year, instead putting his hat in the ring to take over Clare.
Fitzgerald’s future had been expected to be discussed at next month’s board meeting on September 12. It is understood he will make his intentions known before that date.
