Capacity crowd for Connacht decider
The first meeting of the sides in the Connacht decider since 2004 has captured the imagination of supporters in both counties and a crowd of approximately 30,000 is predicted.
The Roscommon venue can cater for just over 33,000 fans and ticket sales have been so brisk that organisers can’t rule out a sold out fixture.
“Our advice to anybody who hasn’t got their tickets yet is to get them as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment,” said a Connacht GAA Council spokesman.
“Tickets are being sold very quickly in Roscommon, and Mayo are distributing their tickets at the moment.
“The early indications are that a big crowd will be travelling up from Mayo and it looks like we’ll have a near capacity crowd on the day.”
Meanwhile, James Horan is expected to name the same team that beat Galway for his first Connacht SFC final as Mayo manager.
If the 38 years-old does keep faith with that starting 15 it will mean he will have selected the same line-up for two consecutive games for the first time in six months.
The Mayo line-up is due to be made public later today .
Experienced midfielder Ronan McGarrity, who has been unable to take any part in training games for the last ten days due to a leg injury, is expected to take his place among the subs.
The versatile Trevor Howley, who has been sidelined with a knee injury for the last three weeks, returned to training last weekend. He is also expected to be named on the Mayo bench.
Interestingly, the Mayo management team recalled midfielder-cum-forward Barry Moran to training last week after a string of impressive performances for his club.
The 26 year-old has been released from the Mayo squad at the end of the National League but is now in line to play some part in next weekend’s Connacht showpiece.
