WHEN Pat Flanagan surveys the 2011 championship landscape, the Westmeath boss feels his team are in a better place to where they were 12 months ago.

Last season Flanagan was only ushered into the Lake County hot seat at the end of April after Brendan Hackett’s tenure came to a premature halt. This year is different. Flanagan has had a proper pre-season to plot what direction he wants his team to travel.

“Last year I inherited a team and brought back a few guys, which is something some would have criticised,” he said.
