Galvin all out to win elusive Sigerson medal
The 31-year-old, who reckons he is “two or three weeks off probably playing a game” and will miss Kerry’s NFL Division One opener against Cork on Sunday week, begins a post-graduate diploma course in fashion buying and management on Monday. He will shortly team up with the likes of Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea, Tom Cunniffe and Alan Freeman as well as Dublin’s Diarmuid Connolly as DIT aim to win their first Sigerson title.
Galvin revealed he is looking forward to making amends after losing out to Sligo IT in the 02 final when the Cork university lost 0-6 to 0-5.
“I captained UCC about 10 or 11 years ago to lose a Sigerson Cup final, which was a big disappointment. It was a medal I’d love to win. I always had a feeling I might get another go at it. I’m delighted at the chance because I only got cleared to play a couple of nights ago. It’s a fantastic competition and DIT are strong. It’s very competitive.”
Galvin rubbished suggestions his new career might impact on his football career.
“I suppose a time comes where you need to think about your career as well because the football won’t last forever.
“I’m just very focused on football, fashion is just... time comes when you might want to think about your career.”
