No disciplinary action after Antrim tussle sees O Sé free to face Dubs
There was speculation that the All Star could face disciplinary action after an incident during Sunday’s qualifier victory over Antrim in Tullamore when he became entangled with Terry O’Neill shortly after half-time.
Referee Jimmy White flashed a pair of yellow cards at the offenders while the incident was not captured by television cameras.
Meanwhile, Sean Dempsey’s tenure as Laois football manager remains up in the air after a meeting of the Laois executive on Monday night which was called to address the general decline of the county’s fortunes in recent seasons.
The county executive will meet with Dempsey and the senior panel’s representatives – Pádraig McMahon and Billy Sheehan – before deciding whether the former underage manager will continue in the role.
County chairman Brian Allen is hopeful that meetings can take place next week but it may be a week or so later before the matter can be addressed due to the current holiday season.
A meeting of the executive held a week previously was notable for the criticism aimed at Dempsey after a disappointing league campaign and championship where they suffered demoralising losses to Kildare and Down.
Club chairmen, secretaries and county delegates were in attendance again two evenings ago but Allen said that the latest meeting was a more positive affair.
“There was a general discussion about where we are at and where we want to go and should be,” said Allen.
“It was a very open debate with some very positive points made. It was a chance to review the whole thing.”
Meanwhile, the county board will also turn its attention to the senior hurling management in the coming weeks but Niall Rigney and his selectors are all but certain to be given the green light for another year.
Laois secured their Liam McCarthy Cup status with a defeat of Antrim earlier this month and came within a whisker of reaching an All-Ireland quarter-final at the expense of Justin McCarthy’s Limerick two weekends ago.
Rigney has already stated his desire to remain on.
