TV special to kick-off anniversary celebrations

THE GAA will kick start its 125th anniversary on January 9 with a Late Late Show special dedicated to the Association before officially launching its celebrations three weeks later at the NFL game between Tyrone and Dublin at Croke Park.

Unlike 1984, when the Centenary Cups were central to events, the pressures of the playing calendar have prevented anything similar this time and president Nickey Brennan admitted that next year’s programme will be a “more modest” affair.

“The Late Late Show is something that reaches so many thousands of homes in Ireland every Friday night,” said Jarlath Burns, who chaired the organising committee.
