Courceys and Castletownbere powering ahead
The intermediate football team from Castletownbere - who have lost three county finals in the last 10 years - and Courcey Rovers’ intermediate hurling side - who have been battling to win their county title for the past six seasons - are two of just 12 club teams from across Ireland that have made it through to the final short-list for Powerade’s Never Give Up campaign for 2008.
Cork is the only county to have two teams on the final short-list. The overall winner will be chosen in the run up to Christmas and will star in the sports drink’s advertising and marketing campaigns throughout 2008.
Castletownbere and Courcey Rovers were two of close to 200 clubs who initially entered for Powerade’s Never Give Up campaign. One other side from Munster has made it to the final short-list – Valentia’s senior football team from Kerry.
The other clubs still in contention are: Ballymanus (Wicklow), Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s (Wexford) and Mullinavat (Kilkenny); Ballintubber (Mayo), Tubbercurry (Sligo) and Killimor (Galway) from Connacht and Longstone (Down), Munterconnaught (Cavan) and Devenish St. Mary’s (Fermanagh) from Ulster.]
