ANTHONY DALY had to satisfy himself that he would be able to make any hard calls in relation to his former playing colleagues before he could take on the job of managing Clare hurlers two years ago.

“It had to be thought through long and hard,” he said at yesterday’s Allianz media briefing in Dublin. “We ironed that out before I ever started.”

He felt that there would ‘definitely’ have been a conflict if any of these players had been ‘iffy’ about training. However, the opposite was the case. They actually set the standard for the younger squad members.
