Sony deny scoring Playstation GAA game own goal
A Sony spokesperson yesterday said the advertising clip, which has been placed on some GAA chat-rooms, is just an early draft and the final edition will not feature the Mayo own goal.
The bizarre clip reveals the Mayo player, placing the ball beyond the Mayo keeper (also wearing green and red). The score is greeted by a huge roar. In the match, Mayo are playing a team in yellow and the goal is preceded by a fine Mayo movement through the middle of the field.
A spokesperson for Sony said the advert was leaked before it was completed and they were trying to ascertain how this had happened. "This is not the final advert," she said.
The sports editor of the Mayo News, Mike Finnerty, said the error had become "a major talking-point around Mayo." He said: "From the reaction we've got from readers, people have obviously started to e-mail the link to each other and they have plenty to say about it.
"It's ironic, I suppose, that it's a Mayo player who has caught up in all of this. It just goes to show how high-profile the county and its footballers have become in recent times.
"I couldn't believe it when I saw it first. The ad itself is excellent and I suppose, looking on the bright side, the player in question took the goal very well! But I suppose it's a good thing that it will be corrected for the final edition."
The Sony game Gaelic Games Football is expected to be a huge seller in the build-up to Christmas after it is launched on November 11.
