McGrath likely to be fit for Toome game
Club officials are confident he will be fit to play against Toomevara in Sunday week's final.
"The first medical prognosis is that Eoin has dislocated the thumb, but he is set to have a second examination later today," a club spokesman said yesterday. "However, we are hopeful it's not a fracture and that must increase his chances of being fit for the final."
While Miceál White will again be an absentee as a result of the serious facial injury sustained in the first round defeat of Ahane, there are no other injury concerns in the Mount Sion camp.
Last Sunday's impressive victory over the Clare champions guarantees a third provincial final appearance for 'Sion in five years. They lost the 2000 decider but were victorious in 2002 when they accounted for Sixmilebridge.
That was only their second Munster title win the first was back in 1981 but they subsequently suffered a major letdown when sensationally losing by a point to Dunloy in the All-Ireland semi-final in Mullingar.
"Our overall record in this championship is disappointing," manager Jim Greene admitted. He insisted Mount Sion will remain "underachievers" until they land the All-Ireland title.
"Toomevara, like ourselves, haven't realised their potential in the Munster club championship, but after taking the scalp of a side as good as Na Piarsaigh we know just how difficult they will be to beat in the decider," he said.
Meanwhile, the Munster Council meets tonight to decide the venue for the provincial final with Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Limerick's Gaelic Grounds the choices.
However, Mount Sion have indicated their willingness to toss for choice of venue Semple Stadium or Walsh Park and they will make that offer to the Tipperary champions ahead of tonight's meeting.
"It seems the reasonable and sensible thing to do, and we are hoping that Toomevara will go along with us," said a Mount Sion spokesman.
