Stars miss out on Gaeltacht tournament
Both players sought permission from the county team management which wasn’t forthcoming and, as a consequence, last year’s defeated finalists will find it extremely difficult to progress in this year’s competition without their two star players.
This is the 35th year of the competition and the sixth occasion that the Naomh Abán club will play hosts. 1996 was the last year the event was held in Cork.
A total of 24 teams drawn from Gaeltacht areas in Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Meath, Waterford, Kerry and Cork will participate at senior, junior, ladies and underage levels and all games will be broadcast live on Raidio na Gaeltachta over the weekend.
Among the many inter-county players likely to play are the Ó Sé brothers Darragh, Marc and Tomás (Kerry), Damien Diver, and the Cassidy Brothers (Donegal), While the emphasis is very much on Gaelic football, there are a lot of other events planned by the organisers which will include Set Dancing, Ceili Dancing, Taditional Music and Singing, Handball and a Table Quiz.
Sponsorship of the event has been excellent and among those who made major contributions are Macroom Motor Services, Toyota Ireland, Roinn na Gaeltachta, Murphy’s Brewery, and the GAA at all levels.
