Lynch stresses students must produce ID to claim refund
The Association’s PRO Danny Lynch emphasised this yesterday in a bid to clarify misunderstandings that may have arisen. He pointed out that up to 10,000 ‘concessions’ had been distributed through Croke Park to the counties involved in this weekend’s football and hurling championship games. And all of these tickets have been accounted for.
These tickets are issued exclusively to County Boards from the participating counties for distribution and they are not available from Croke Park.
Family tickets were sold on the basis of at least one adult in units of four. In the case of one or two adults, the full ticket price is paid for and tickets for the children cost €5 each.
Group tickets for primary-school children were also made available, he added. One adult received a free ticket with every group of ten children (paying €2 each), subject to a maximum of 22. These group tickets had to be pre-booked through the relevant County Boards.
The third category of concessionary tickets applied to students. They have the facility to buy stand tickets - for the Canal End only - paying for them at face value and gaining are fund on production of valid ID cards at the stiles. With the refund (€25), it means that it costs students only €15 - or €10 in the case of students attending tomorrow’s football championship games.
Students should present themselves to stiles 1-4 on Block ‘D,’ which is at the corner of the Cusack Stand, adjoining the Canal End. Again, Mr Lynch stressed that without the proper identification, refunds will not be given out. And he again emphasised that this particular arrangement does not apply to family tickets, group passes or children generally.
He explained that it was not feasible to sell student tickets at the reduced prices at source - for the obvious reason that this system could be abused by people selling on their tickets to adults at a higher or full cost.
Mr. Lynch added: “Supporters should be aware that the only refunds available are for bona fide students and nobody else. They will not be issued for Family, Group or tickets purchased in respect of children generally.
*All tickets for Saturday’s Bank of Ireland football championship quarter finals have been issued to County Boards and clubs and have been sold through the GAA Website and Ticketmaster. There will be no returns and no further tickets on general sale.
*Tickets for Sunday’s hurling semi-final were sold out at Croke Park early yesterday afternoon. Further tickets are, however, being returned and will go on general sale again today from 11am to 7pm while stocks last.
*The GAA are asking supporters on both days to arrive early and to follow the ticket instructions and colour coding in respect of entry to the ground. They are reminded that Saturday in particular is a normal business day in Dublin and sufficient time should be afforded to get to Croke Park.
*Supporters should also be mindful of the clamping policy of the City Traffic Control authorities and it is recommended that official car parks be used where possible.
