Corcoran on bench as Sherlock makes welcome Cork return
Corcoran is named in the substitutes, while Sherlock takes over the left corner back position from Cian O’Connor of Erins Own.
Sherlock had been out of action for almost six weeks after tearing ligaments in his shoulder while playing for St. Michael’s in the county SFC. However, he took part in a ‘A’ versus ‘B’ trial game over the weekend and reported that he felt fine and suffered no reaction.
Sherlock’s inclusion marks the only change from the side that beat Kerry, a game which saw Brian Murphy of Bride Rovers, Cian O’Connor and Jonathon O’Callaghan of Castletownroche make their championship debuts. Both Murphy and O’Callaghan have been retained in their respective right corner back and right corner forward positions.
The Limerick team is due to be announced tonight but no injury problems confront manager Pat Joe Whelahan and his fellow selectors.
Meanwhile, Rory Hanniffy and Barry Teehan will miss Offaly’s Leinster SHC clash with neighbours Laois at Tullamore on Sunday, while a big doubt also surrounds the availability of Simon Whelahan. Both Hanniffy and Teehan have been ruled out because of knee injuries, while Whelahan is troubed by a hand injury.
The Rocks’ Mark Dunne is selected for his Laois debut as the Leinster champions prepare to travel to Carlow. Kevin Fitzpatrick is selected to partner Noel Garvan at midfield in the absence of Pauric Clancy, though there is an injury doubt over Fitzpatrick.
Antrim have called up Paul Doherty to make his senior championship debut against Donegal at Ballybofey on Sunday. Doherty will line out in the right corner forward position.
David Casey is out of the Roscommon team for Saturday’s Connacht SFC replay with Sligo. The Roscommon wing back had thirteen stitches inserted in his forehead after last Sunday’s dramatic drawn game following an accidental collision of heads.
Two Sligo players, midfielder Gavin Maye and full forward Michael McNamara, will undergo fitness tests before the team is announced tonight. Both shifted knocks in the drawn encounter but are expected to be pronounced fit.
With Kevin Brady out for the rest of the season with a broken leg, Galway manager John O’Mahony revealed yesterday, that Kevin Walsh and Tomas Meehan will miss next Sunday’s Connacht championship game with London in Ruislip.
Donegal star forward Brian Roper has lost his battle to be fit for Sunday's crunch clash in the Ulster Championship against Antrim at Ballybofey.
