GAA chiefs to introduce ref link with umpires

GAA chiefs will begin the fight-back against indiscipline on the field by introducing a new high-tech link between the referees and umpires for tomorrow’s All-Ireland club finals at Croke Park.

Referees Brian Gavin (Offaly) and Meath’s Dave Coldrick will be hooked up via earpiece with their umpires for the hurling and football deciders at headquarters.

The exploratory move has arisen as a result of a recent meeting at Croke Park between referees, inter-county managers and GAA officials, with veteran Laois boss Mick O’Dwyer proposing the experiment.
