Rossas favoured to account for Avondhu

O’Donovan Rossa v Avondhu, Kilmurry, 8 pm

Rossas favoured to account for Avondhu

HAVING failed to Na Piarsaigh in round one, this is Rossas last chance in this year’s championship. They put up a brave show against the city side, and only failed after they lost the services of midfielder Donal O’Sullivan and Don Davis through injury.

Both are back for this game and along with Jurgen Werner, Eddie Nealon and county senior goalkeeper Kevin O’Dwyer, should edge past one of the better divisional sides who have put in a lot of preparation.

Verdict: A Rossas win.

Ballincollig v Carbery

Newcestown, 8 pm

Ballincollig are going through a very bad period at present , and it’s likely to continue when they play West Cork divisional side Carbery.

They desperately need a victory to keep their season going a while longer, but Carbery, backboned by Kieran Daly (Ilen Rovers) and county seniors Eoin Sexton (Kilbrittain), Sean Levis (Muintir Bhaire), look to carry too much power for the Muskerry side.

Verdict: A Carbery win.

Mallow v Beara

Ballineen, 7.30 pm

FORMER champions Beara (1997) are reported to have put in a big effort this season and Mallow may feel the brunt of it. Ciarán O’Sullivan will be keen to show he still has something to offer the county team.

Mallow who were surprised by Aghada in round one, will look to Fergal McCormack, Tadhg Riordan, former county players Mick O’Donovan and Austin Aherne and Ronan Sheehan to see them through.

Verdict: A Beara win.

IHC: Youghal v Cobh

Killeagh, 7.30 pm

THIS all East Cork clash should be worth a visit as it’s the end of the line for the losers. Youghal who have a good record in this particular championship, were hugely disappointing against Aghada in round one and will be keen to turn it around.

The Coleman brothers Brendan and Eoin, Mick Downing, Miceál Ó Laocha and county minor Brendan Ring will spearhead the Youghal challenge which should be good enough. despite the best efforts of Derek Barrett, Terry Anderson, Pat Sloane and Mick Daly.

Verdict: A Youghal win

TOMORROW

Seandun v Newcestown

Coachford, 3.30 pm

THE excellent form shown by Mayfield, Brian Dillons, and Passage in this year’s city JFC should be reflected in the Seandun team to play Newcestown. Despite the lack of preparation, if the players chosen are committed, Seandun could score a rare victory, particularly with Kevin O’Brien (Passage), Paul Triggs (Dillons), and Barry Hegarty (Mayfield) in the side.

Verdict: A Seandun win.

Bantry v Duhallow

Macroom, 3.30 pm

THIS year cannot end quick enough for Bantry who have suffered two resounding defeats in the championship so far, and could well be on the end of another against Duhallow.

The divisional side are one of the few who make a real effort to prepare.

If there is any spark of pride left in the Bantry players then the Blues won’t be easily beaten but Duhallow, backboned by junior champions Kiskeam and players from Newmarket, Rockchapel, Knocknagree and Ballydesmond, look to hold all the aces.

Verdict: A Duhallow win.

IFC: Nemo v Glenville

Riverstown, 7.30 pm

NEMO fielded their intermediate team in a senior league game against Aghada during the week and won by four points. On that form Glenville are unlikely to pose too many problems for the city side.

Verdict: A Nemo win.
