At a meeting of the Cork County Board tonight, delegates voted to appoint Under-21 boss John Considine and his selection team as the Cork senior hurling interim management.

In a secret ballot, delegates voted by 77 to 39 in favour of the Under-21 management ahead of former senior boss Donal O’Grady for a maximum of two games.

Two people abstained from voting, while there were three spoiled ballots.

However, it is as yet unclear if the Under-21 management are interested in taking over the senior hurlers in a caretaker capacity.

In a forty-minute discussion, delegates considered the composition of a committee to appoint Gerald McCarthy’s permanent successor.

Ten motions, including the proposal arising from the document from GAA Director General Pauric Duffy and incoming President Christy Cooney, were considered.

Most of the alternative motions included representatives of the 2008 Cork senior hurling panel, but no motion considered the input of the current panel of players.

A call was made to have a copy of these proposals e-mailed to all clubs, so that club delegates could go back to their clubs this weekend to consult them on these proposals.

County Board chairman Jerry O’Sullivan said that whoever was appointed as the new management team would “appoint their own players.”

The Cork County Board will meet again next Monday night to appoint a selection team.
