Mourinho winner's medal sold at auction

A Premier League winner’s medal presented to former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sold for £21,600 (€25,767) at auction today.

Mourinho threw his medal and blazer into the stand at Stamford Bridge after his side beat Manchester United 3-0 to win the 2005/06 title.

It was sold to an unnamed telephone bidder at a sporting memorabilia sale at Bonhams Auctioneers in Chester today.

The price is inclusive of buyer’s premium.

A signed McLaren team jacket which belonged to Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton was withdrawn from sale after it failed to reach its reserve price.

The motor racing ace autographed and gave the jacket to a pregnant woman who won a competition to meet him.

The jacket was expected to fetch between £8,000 (€9,543) and £10,000 (€11,929).

A winner’s medal from the first Fifa World Cup competition was sold for £28,800 (€34,356), inclusive of buyer’s premium.

The gold medal was awarded to Uruguay Captain Jose Nasazzi in July 1930 after his side defeated Argentina 4-2 in front of a crowd of 93,000 people, and became the first nation to win a World Cup.
