Nolan fails to qualify in World Indoor Championships

Ireland’s participation in this year’s World Indoor Championships is over as James Nolan failed to progress from his heat in the 1500-metres this evening in Valencia.

The Tullamore Harriers runner came home in sixth place in a time of 3.42.12, which was five seconds off his personal best. With only two runners qualifying from each heat along with the three fastest runners-up it was always going to be tough for Nolan. The heat was won by Deresse Mekonnen from Ethiopia in a time of 3.39.74.

Earlier today Leevale’s Ailis McSweeney qualified for the semi-final of the 60-metres but was unable to secure a place in tomorrow’s final finishing seventh in her semi-final in a time of 7.46.
