The Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan has banned pigeon racing from France and the Channel Islands to Ireland.

It follows cases of the H5N1 strain of avian flu in France.

A similar measure is also being implemented in the North.

Pigeon racing between Ireland and the UK is still permitted.
