Talks fail to resolve row among Irish showjumpers

The row over the selection process for the Irish showjumping team reportedly remains deadlocked despite talks in Dublin yesterday aimed at defusing the situation.

Two riders, Jessica Kuerten and Harry Marshall, are refusing to participate alongside Cian O'Connor, whose horse failed a drugs test at the Athens Olympics.

Reports this morning said compromise proposals about the selection process were put forward at yesterday's talks, but the pair were still refusing to jump for Ireland in the final Super League meeting in Barcelona next month.

The reports said Kuerten walked out of the talks after being "verbally abused" by fellow rider Capt Gerry Flynn, who said she should not be begged to return to the team.

Marshall is also reportedly dissatisfied with the compromise put forward and apparently wants the current selection committee to resign immediately.
