FAI agrees to terms for World Cup review

FAI general secretary, Brendan Menton is expected to meet Sports Council chief, John Treacy early next week to begin the process of appointing an independent chairman to carry out a review of the FAI’s handling of the ‘Roy Keane affair’.

FAI general secretary, Brendan Menton is expected to meet Sports Council chief, John Treacy early next week to begin the process of appointing an independent chairman to carry out a review of the FAI’s handling of the ‘Roy Keane affair’.

The Board of management yesterday unanimously accepted that the Association did not have the appropriate crisis management mechanisms in place in Saipan to deal with the serious situation which arose there.

The Board have agreed the following terms of reference.

1. To examine the performance of the FAI operation in the preparation and the support of the Irish team at the 2002 World Cup.

2. To consider the effectiveness of proceduresand arrangements which applied assessed against similar international comparisons.

3. To examine how the international team fits into FAI structures.

4. In the light of the foregoing, to recommend a strategy for the FAI toDevise suitable policies to achieve greater success in the forthcoming European and World Cup campaigns.
