Formula 1: Sauber deny Raikkonen switch to Ferrari rumour
Sauber have rejected claims that Kimi Raikkonen is being lined-up to replace Rubens Barrichello at Ferrari.
The Brazilian's contract terminates at the end of the 2002 season and with Michael Schumacher's deal ending the following year, Ferrari are reportedly keen to resolve their long-term future.
Raikkonen's manager Steve Robertson added to the speculation by revealing that Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn has enquired about the Finn's availability.
He said: "I have heard that Ross Brawn has asked to see Kimi's data and asked about his contract.
"I would like Kimi to fulfill his contract with Sauber and go to a big team when he knows a lot more about Formula One."
But Sauber spokeswoman Agnes Carlier said: "This is one of those favourite fairy-tales, but it's not true.
"This is a story that was spread around three or four Grand Prix ago and it's catching."
Carlier rejected the idea that Brawn had been in contact with Sauber officials.
She said: "I don't think so - it's not possible during the season.
"Peter Sauber fully expects Kimi to see out his contract with us until 2003."
However, the fact remains that Ferrari are keen to explore all avenues in preparation for Barrichello's, and possibly, Schumacher's departure from the team.
President Luca Montezemolo said: "Things are in the balance because Michael has a contract until the end of next year, but we do not know what he wants to do and we cannot afford to wait.
"We have to investigate our options."
