Riordan and O’Driscoll tame Gould brothers

Donal Riordan and William O’Driscoll had good wins in the Munster intermediate championship, beating brothers Anthony and Noel Gould respectively.

Riordan beat Anthony Gould at Béal na mBláth, despite two very short opening shots that left him a bowl of odds down. Gould increased his odds with his second throw, but Riordan then turned the score in two flashes of brilliance.

He got a massive bowl past the water to the double-gates. He followed with an equally brilliant one to sight facing Shorten’s cross, where he took his first lead. He had light at Long’s Lane in four more where Gould made a mistake and fell a bowl behind. Riordan pushed his lead to almost two bowls in the shots to the big corner and kept control to Cronin’s where Gould conceded.
