Hard not to revel in Liverpool’s current plight

SCHADENFREUDE is not, perhaps, the noblest of human emotions. Moreover, revelling in the tribulations of other clubs can be regarded as being a tad ‘small time’, if you overdo it.

However there can be few Reds who aren’t enjoying the sight of the current league table – nor can I be the only one who actually cut out the clipping from the paper to chuckle at periodically. For Liverpool are in the relegation zone. Mmm: that’s good eatin’.

Relishing their football misfortunes is one thing: however, somehow the more decent majority of us are able to separate all that from the off-pitch financial shenanigans, which are almost wholly to be deplored. That might appear to be the result of cognitive dissonance, so clearly are the two things linked. But there you have it. Watching the Scousers marching at the weekend, and witnessing their sit-in protests, I felt rather proud of what, after all, remain our fellow Lancastrians.
