Buddy takes step up in class in his stride

THERE were no fireworks on the clock when the Guinness trophy kicked-off at Curraheen Park on Saturday night, but easily the most notable performance was that of Graysland Buddy in heat 3.

Buddy takes step up in class in his stride

The Tom O’Neill trained novice, the winner of both his races prior to Saturday, took the hefty step up in class in his stride. The winner edged ahead of the pacemaking Lone Smiling early in the back straight and stretched clear of that rival from the third bend for a four length success in a fastest of the round 28.71.

Next best on the clock was Burgess Flash in the opening heat. The veteran made all and trouble in behind in the back straight ensured an easy victory in 28.88.

The only other dog to break the 29.00 mark was Razldazl Adam in heat 2. The winner made all and had his task made easier when Tyrur Jay checked at the third bend, leaving Razldazl Adam to beat Lowertown Mike by three lengths in 28.93.

The draw for Saturday’s semi-finals of the Guinness trophy is:

First semi-final: 1 Broadacres Turbo, 2 Tyrur Lee, 3 Lone Smiling, 4 Disco Stu, 5 Burgess Flash, 6 Lemon Beverly.

Second semi-final: 1 Wanrok, 2 Tyrur Jay, 3 Stone Rig Rascal, 4 Burnpark Duke, 5 Graysland Buddy, 6 Compass Sam

Third semi-final: 1 Greenkeeper Mike, 2 Skeough Bestie, 3 Castleland Chico, 4 Razldazle Adam, 5 Lowertown Mike, 6 Nemos Record.
