McGarrity back in Ballina starting five
Clashes between Ballina and Cork clubs Neptune, UCC Demons and North Mon, are part of basketball folklore and Neptune will be hoping to revive some of those memories.
New coach Dan Mobbs will be able to parade a full-strength bench in what will be their first home game of the season, while Merry Monk will be without the injured Shane O’Mara.
Abrakebabra Tigers travel to Killarney to face Kerry rivals Mustang Sally’s St Paul’s in a mouth-watering clash tomorrow night.
The Tigers have concerns over the fitness of Kerry star duo Kieran Donaghy and Micheal Quirke, while Killarney will welcome back Andrew Fitzgerald and Jarleth Lee.
Hoops could be without the injured duo Jonathan Reed and Ger Jago when they seek out their first win of the season at home to University of Ulster tonight, but Barry Cullen and David O’Mahony are likely to pass late fitness tests. Reigning SuperLeague champions DART Killester could be without their injured Grenada-born star Michael Bonaparte for their trip North to face Belfast Star.
Limerick Lions had an exciting if narrow win over Merry Monk in their first game of the season in Ballina, but they will be hoping to bounce back from last weekend’s loss to DCU Saints when they welcome Cork rivals UCC Demons to the UL Arena.
Demons rediscovered the winning formula last weekend and could get a further boost by the return of Shane Coughlan, although Tim O’Halloran and Sean Carroll are out.
DCU Saints, who handed out that drubbing to Lions last weekend, have won their first two games of the season and entertain UCD/Marian, who are looking for their first win, this weekend.
DCU are worrying over the fitness of Mike Trimmer, while Marian have a clean bill of health ahead of their short but tough trip across the Liffey.
In Women’s SuperLeague, DART Killester entertain Waterford Wildcats in Clontarf tomorrow night. Elaine Stone has returned to training for DART after being absent with a neck injury, but she is unlikely to feature.
Wildcats are without 16-year-old sensation Stephanie O’Shea who has a bout of flu.
High-flying Team Montenotte Hotel Cork make the trip to Meteors with an unbeaten record to maintain. Mark Scannell has boosted his squad in recent weeks with the signing of Irish international Niamh Dwyer.
DCU Mercy travel to Limerick to take on UL Aughinish in a potential classic encounter. Mercy coach Mark Ingle is relishing the prospect of facing a full-strength UL side.
“We had a tough game against Waterford Wildcats last weekend and this game will prove no different,” said Ingle. “They have had a strong start to the season and will be a tough nut to crack.”
