When you are writing a weekly sports column it helps to have subjects you can come back to again and again, old staples that will fill a page when inspiration fails and wordcount remains stubbornly low.
Manchester United being rubbish; Saudi Arabia doing something dastardly; anything involving Rory McIlroy or Roy Keane; the GAA losing its soul; rugby fans drinking pints at the Aviva Stadium; FAI bashing; UEFA bashing; FIFA bashing – there’s generally a few hundred words of bluster on any given week to be gotten out of these.
