Can’t we just have nice things? Can’t certain aspects of sport just stop, stay as they are, and not surrender to the bean-counting greed goblins who walk into an office one day, having run the sums, and tell their colleagues: Look, just hear me out on this.

Granted, there are certain competitions that do need changing. The Champions Cup. (Fewer and fewer teams seem to really care until the last 16). Those group stages of the All-Ireland Football Championship. (The equivalent of a political speech that takes a lot of time to say nothing at all).
