Christy O'Connor: Home comforts a rare treat for a county final

A handful of clubs around the country are based beside their county ground, but not many have played a final in the main pitch.

At face value, a number of different clubs around the country appear to have the most salubrious and luxurious venue around as their home ground – except they don’t. Location isn’t always about location.

Castlebar Mitchels’ clubhouse is right beside MacHale Park, just like Thurles Sarsfields’ clubhouse lies in the shadow of the Kinnane Stand in Thurles. Salthill-Knocknacarra’s clubhouse is at the opposite corner of the main stand in Pearse Stadium but it’s still effectively part of the ground because the building is so visibly connected to the venue.
