Galway did more than blow the championship wide open over the weekend – they opened up the rest of the footballing decade. Dublin may well remain a feature of the footballing skyline but they no longer will tower over everyone else. The Age of Dublin is over, not least because age has finally caught up on even them.
It is to their credit that again one of the few championship matches they’ve lost was as epic as it was stunning. Just like the Mayo game in 2012, the Donegal one in 2014, Mayo again in 2021 and Kerry in 2022, Saturday evening was an astonishing match to watch and required something extraordinary to foil them.
