When Mason Mount signed for Manchester United ahead of a number of other clubs last summer, it was regarded as a significant coup. This was a triumph, not just for the club, but for their recruitment team, as well as Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag wanted a player he had first noticed when Mount was on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and he inspired Arnhem to a victory against Ajax. Ten Hag regarded Mount as the ideal modern midfielder, good on and off the ball.
