Something just does not add up at NBC

It just keeps getting worse for US Olympic broadcaster NBC.

Something just does not add up at NBC

Every four years in the US they are upbraided by viewers and rival media outlets for insisting on keeping back the best action for its primetime shows, often hours after they have happened live.

This time around NBC provided live streaming of events on its website, but still the criticism was heaped upon disgruntled TV viewers, particularly when it emerged they had edited out a dance section of the Opening Ceremony that gave a nod to the victims of the 7/7 terrorist attacks on London in 2005 in favour of a bland interview between the presenter of American Idol and Michael Phelps.

It was their failure to screen live on TV the much-anticipated showdown between Phelps and Ryan Lochte that caused further uproar and when a trailer for another swimming final, involving rising female star Missy Franklin, gave away the outcome ahead of the tape-delayed race, NBC should have held their hands up and admitted it had lived up to the increasingly popular Twitter hashtag #NBCfail.

Instead, they announced a record profit on their decision to cash in on increased advertising revenues from showing the ceremony in primetime. And watched by a record audience for a Summer Olympics of 40.7 million viewers.

Something just doesn’t add up.
