The Examiner’s football correspondent Liam Mackey likes a good argument when he hears it, and he’s got strong views of his own. Today, and every Tuesday, he will be acting as referee on your opinions on the Premiership. Let him know what you think and he’ll argue the toss with you.

We’ll be offering a free sports prize to the star contribution each week. This week Keane complaining against the bigger clubs; Gran’ts like Sellers; Switch venues for CL and UEFA Cup; What has Crouch done to be left on bench; CL Final will be better than FA Cup; Scottish League a joke; Surprise: Utd and Pool best supported clubs still; Gerrard not playing well.

Letter of the week goes to Red Devil, Limerick for his views on the Scottish League. Let’s have an address and our prize will be winging its way to you.

WASN’T it interesting to hear Roy complaining about refereeing decisions not going Sunderland’s way this season against so called bigger clubs , yet when he played for Manchester United who benefit from virtually all split refereeing decisions (only one penalty conceded in the Premiership this season) he never had a comment to make to this effect !!!!!A touch hypocritical one would say?

Or a touch of Discovering how the other half or, rather, 90% lives, more like.

...............................................

WHITHER Grant? His enigma grows. He still resembles Peter Sellers Chauncey in "Being There", but if he’s to blame when things go wrong then it would be churlish to deny him credit when things go right. Wouldn’t it?

Kevin Blake, by email

OUR SHOUT:

It certainly would. But guess who’ll get the rap if Chelsea don’t go all the way in Moscow.

...............................................

WHY don’t they just switch the venues of the UEFA Cup Final and the Champions League Final so that Zenit St Petersburg play in Moscow and Manchester United and Chelsea play in Wembley. Or is that too sensible? Sure, the Billy Boys would have a bit of inconvenience, but what’s the problem there if they are keen for European silverware after more than 30 years.

Peter Keneally, Cork, by email

OUR SHOUT:

Ah, yes, this Moscow thing. Funny how English clubs only seemed to have noticed the final is on there in the last week.

JUST can’t work out what Rafa was thinking of on Wednesday night. Sure, Kuyt’s hard-working enough but he was making no impression in this game and Crouch would have posed a different kind of threat in extra time. As for taking Torres off? Was it really a hamstring. He looked mobile enough just before.

Pat Murphy, Dublin, by email

I DON’T know what Peter Crouch did to Rafa Benitez. Rafa, instead of gathering clips of Drogba diving, try watching some clips of Crouch in action. I think you’ll find a goal from the big man in just about every game he features. And he can hold the ball up. The tea-lady had more chance of getting a look-in against Chelsea than poor Crouch had. Disgraceful treatment of a top-class player. Oh, and didn’t the mind games with Drogba work a treat Rafa? Come on the Blues in the final.

Brian O’Leary, Clonmel, by email

I CERTAINLY hope that the Champions League Final has more going for it than last year’s FA Cup Final which was a dire and dogged affair. Fergie tried to be too clever at Wembley. He should go for it this time.

OUR SHOUT:

If it’s half as good as the second leg at the Bridge, it’ll do for me. Just like the old days, there was rain, mud, goals, good football and intense physical battle when I squinted, I swear I could just make out Osgood, Cooke and ‘Chopper’ Harris in blue.

LIAM, Hi, I’m writing to say that I think the Scottish League is a joke of a league . . . there are 12 crap teams in a crap league. Celtic or Rangers are always top of the league come the end of season and I think they get an easy entry into the Champions League! The winner of the Scottish league I think should go straight into the UEFA Cup given the simplicity of the league. There are teams like Spurs, and Aston Villa, who play in a tougher league and should be given the Scottish team’s place. The Coca Cola Championship is more entertaining than the Scottish league and I’d rather watch that than the Scottish league any day hands down! Are UEFA or the FA ever going to introduce a British League, maybe put Celtic and Rangers into the Premiership and the rest into the Championship as I think they would feel at home in it! And another thing will the FA ever introduce two points for a score draw cos 0-0 draws can be torture to watch at times. I think we’d see some better games, if you could get an extra point for having a score draw! What do you think Liam?

Red Devil, Limerick!

OUR SHOUT:

Ah Red Devil, put the scoreless draw under pressure and we might never again see killer headlines like ‘Much ado about nothing-nothing’. As for your comments on the SPL, have our Letter of the Week prize to go with all the letters of outrage you’re about to receive.

Hi Liam, As we are coming to the end of another Premier League season and what a climax it is having my mate and I decided to run a poll within our workplace. The following may be of interest to you and your readers. The total amount of people who voted was 240.The first question we asked was :What Premiership club do you support?. The result was.

Man Utd = 82

Liverpool = 79

Arsenal = 35

Chelsea = 11

Others = 33 (Of these 17

supported Spurs, six support West Ham, five support Newcastle and five support Sunderland The second question we asked how many people go to see Cork City play in a season? 104 went once to see them play last season. Of these 94 said they would never go back there again the standard was so poor. 27 went more than once last season. 109 have never seen them play in the last three seasons. Going on the poll it seems to us that Fran Gavin and Noel Mooney has a job on their hands trying to market League of Ireland Football in this City. Also it proves if proof is needed is that Man Utd and Liverpool are still the best supported clubs in the city. No doubt Cork Blue and Trizia the Terror on Wednesday will find it hard to accept. By the way my mate actually follows Chelsea while I follow for my sins Liverpool.

I’m a Liverpool fan and I’m in a state of complete shock at the lack of reporting on how badly Steven Gerrard has been playing for the last 2 1/2 months. His lazy efforts are sickening and too frequent. The fact that he wears the yellow arm-band whilst crawling through one game after another is insulting to his team-mates and the fans. In an effort to get him to move from the little patch he called his own on the pitch against Chelsea in the home leg, the crowd sang his name as if pleading with him to do something. I sat at home expecting him to cock a leg and mark his little patch like a hyena or to scavenge on balls from the rest of his team.. The love-fest between himself and Torres is killing the team performance. This was highlighted by the contrast of the halves in the first leg of the semi-final. Xavi Alonso for the first time in weeks was given the chance to spread the ball around the pitch and get a football match underway; but in the second half Xavi was denied the chance to boss the midfield as the game was aimed at getting the ball to the hyena and Torres as quickly as possible. As captain, Gerrard has to lead by example. The lack of intelligence in the last few minutes to close the opposition down in their own half is what cost them. Then, after the final whistle and after his own team-mate were pretty much physically assaulted for ninety minutes, what does he do? He walks up to the accused and shakes his hand! The level of tackles Torres had to endure was a disgrace and obviously didn’t bother the hyena. Also the fact that time after time he would not put the boot in on his England team-mates says it all. Give Xavi or monster Masch the arm band, then you’ll see him move.

OUR SHOUT:

To where? Oh yeah, Chelsea. By the way, shaking hands with the opposition as an indictable offence? Have a red card yourself.
