The Examiner’s football correspondent Liam Mackey likes a good argument when he hears it, and he’s got strong views of his own.

Angry Fans

Today, and every Tuesday, he will be acting as referee on your opinions on the Premiership. Let him know what you think and he’ll argue the toss with you. We’ll be offering a free sports prize to the star contribution each week. This week Pool look very solid now; Choking Gunners; Roy O’Donovan’s tackle on Cudicini; Robbie Keane’s being substituted; Avram Grant’s luck; Everton’s fatal blow; Formula 1 back; A little perspective on CL; Barcelona still there; Best of luck to Aliadiere; Ronaldo’s host of misses.

Letter of the week goes to Steve Arrowsmith, for his letter on goal line technology. Let’s have that address and our glittering prize will be on its way to you.

LIVERPOOL have come in for a lot of criticism but people fail to see that they do have the foundations of a good squad. The defence is very solid with exciting young players like Agger and Skrtel. The midfield is also strong with players like Alonso and Mascherano and we have finally stumbled upon our best attack with Gerard and Torres.

Rafa has made good progress in the Champions league this season which has not received the same recognition as the other three Premier league teams and some so called experts have even used the excuse that the only reason we beat Inter was because of a decline in Italian football.

Perhaps if we had defeated world beaters like Olympiacos and Lyon we would be favourites now. Granted Arsenal do deserve the praise they are getting for their football which at times is exquisite and they have certainly laid down a marker in how the game should be played. As for the pretenders to the throne, Chelsea and Manchester United, they still haven't won anything and so must be content with their meagre European Cup collection.

OUR SHOUT: A stout defence of Rafa who, it's true, probably gets more criticism than he deserves and rotates less than it seems. Still, I note you avoid any mention of Liverpool's meagre - ie non-existent - Premiership collection which, more than any amount of rotation, is really what has the faithful and critics alike in a spin.

The rest of this week's column is in today's Irish Examiner and will appear here tomorrow.
