AS a precursor to what may lie ahead for Ireland when they open their Six Nations campaign against France in Marseilles in just over two weeks, the fact that all four Irish provinces faced Top 14 opposition in the Investec Champions Cup over the weekend offered a timely insight.

A return of two wins from the four outings suggests, as has been the case over the last two Six Nations campaigns, that there’s very little separating the teams with home advantage the decisive factor in those two outings.
