FEELGOOD STORY: Trainer Jimmy Mangan, jockey Mark Walsh, and groom Chloe Dreaper savour the moment after Spillane’s Tower struck Grade One gold at Fairyhouse last Sunday. Picture: Healy Racing

SO much has been said about all that is wrong in the world of horse racing that a weekend like the Easter one just gone was badly needed. Fairyhouse has three marquee races and plenty of decent ones in its movable spring festival, and whilst numerically Willie Mullins dominated, it was the spread of winners elsewhere that gave you the realisation that we still have an army of talented trainers all looking for the same thing: A good horse.

Tom Gibney and Jimmy Mangan both proved that they could hit the target once they have the right bullets to fire, and so did Jarlath Fahey, Pat Foley, Eoin Doyle, Dermot McLoughlin, Cian Collins, Anthony McCann, and Philip Rothwell. Many others went close as they did what they had been doing for their whole careers: Making the best of what they had.
