Memories of summers here sound like the Irish version of an Enid Blyton adventure: kayaking, spotting porpoises, catching mackerel, and cooling off in a private cove. Three-bedroom Gleann Oisín in Dromgarriff, just outside Glengarriff, is set on three-acres of mature woodland with its own shoreline looking out towards Garinish Island.

The house was built in the 1950s by a couple, Dr John Stanley and his wife Jane.

The house is about a mile down a laneway off the main road into Glengarriff and there are native oak and holly trees in the surrounding woodland.

The late actress Maureen O’Hara was a neighbour and the family remembers the excitement when her then husband, Captain Charles F Blair, used to arrive in Glengarriff Harbour on his seaplane.

Auctioneer Denis Harrington of Harrington Estates describes this property as “the most glorious private retreat” and praised it as combining the unique magnificence of all that Glengarriff offers — seafront setting with woodland and mountain backdrop.

VERDICT: A house in a private cove perfect for kayaking, swimming, and spotting local wildlife — new owners will be living the dream.

A lot of the background work here has been done: there’s underfloor heating at groundfloor level, zoned gas heating, and solar panels for heating water, with integrated Bosh appliances and silestone worktops in the kitchen.

That leaves new owners free to decorate 1A Enfield on Cork’s Glasheen Road to their own taste and budget.

The recently constructed four-bed semi-detached house has good-sized gated off-street parking at the front and a low-maintenance patio at the back.

“You’re within easy reach of all essential amenities here. The Lough, UCC, the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork University Hospital, and Wilton Shopping Centre are all only a short stroll. And you’ve got access to the South Link Road as well as public transport into the city,” says Johnny O’Flynn of Sherry FitzGerald.

He expects interest from investors as well as potential owner occupiers.

VERDICT: A good blend of high-spec efficiency with a prime location. The heavy lifting of construction and energy integration is already complete so this property offers a blank canvas for buyers to apply their own interior style.

No Drama or fuss to mar your move into this Marwood Green house for sure. No 17 is set up to make it as easy as possible for new owners to settle in.

This four-bed semi-d in Riverstown, Glanmire, has a modern neutral decor throughout with a good sized-living room and separate kitchen/ dining area.

The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom and two other bedrooms are also doubles.

And above that you’ve got a large attic room with two Velux windows and wooden flooring, which could make a great gaming den or home office.

It’s all about making things convenient here — gated side access, a low-maintenance patio/back garden with a steel shed are key contributors to this.

“No 17 Marwood Green is in turnkey decorative condition, ready for its new owners to move in and unpack,” notes Paul Fenton of Sherry FitzGerald.

It faces onto a large green area and primary and secondary schools are within a few hundred metres.

VERDICT: The quiet cul-de-sac house in a popular development will attract attention from couples and families.

Stylish women of a certain age who shopped at Vignoles boutique in Cork’s Winthrop Arcade may well still have some of these items in their wardrobe. The opposite of fast fashion, the clothing here had quality built in.

Appropriately enough, the home of the former owner, Shelagh Humphreys, has a similar classic longevity to it.

The late Ms Humphreys was from Cork city but moved east to the Ballycotton area when she retired some 20 years ago, says her nephew.

The boutique originally opened in the 1930s and Shelagh inherited and ran the business for more than 35 years.

Her retirement property at Ballygeaney was a three-bed bungalow set on 0.9 acres.

This cottage, built in around 1900, features classic traits such as handmade antique pitch pine doors, exposed brick, stone walls and salvaged beams.

It’s situated around a kilometre from Ballyandreen beach and a 4km drive from Ballycotton village and the popular Ballycotton cliff walk.

Adrianna Hegarty of Hegarty Properties hails the “picturesque” site and the “charm and individuality” of the cottage which is around 15km from Midleton and which is guided at €320,000.

VERDICT: With a bit of a revamp, this Ballycotton cottage could be the ultimate statement piece.
