Wish List: Landscape, lavender and love hearts add layers of meaning

Galway-based artist Emer Whelan’s celebration of Irish female strength, St Brigid and renewal, 'Ór' is €115.

Strength and meaning

This piece, above, stopped me mid-scroll. Ór —  gold as gaeilge —  is Galway-based artist Emer Whelan’s celebration of Irish female strength, St Brigid and renewal. Green and gold tones, oak frame, layers of mythology and meaning. It’s compact but powerful, like a quiet altar for your wall. Laser-cut, hand-painted and limited edition, it's €115, exclusively via Emerwhelanart.com. This is contemporary Irish art with real soul.

Irish inspo

More Irish inspiration, we love the new dual-language Irish and English packaging, a small but lovely nod to heritage on your bathroom shelf.

Kinvara’s 24hr Rosehip Face Serum is go halainn ar fad. It's rich, calming and hydrating; your skin will drink up. It's €36.95 from pharmacies, health stores and online at Kinvaraskincare.com.

Super ceramics

I’m really drawn to Amanda Murphy’s ceramics; they feel like little pieces of the Irish landscape, seen from above. Her bird’s-eye view shapes everything from vases and bowls to mugs and candleholders.

Trained at Crawford and honed in Thomastown, her work has found its way into craft shops, galleries, and even presidential gifts. Functional, beautiful, and quietly rooted in place. See Amandamurphyceramics.com.

Lavender and vanilla

This one’s for slower moments. Nespresso’s French Lavender and Vanilla Decaffeinato is a cosy, caffeine-free Vertuo blend with soft vanilla and delicate floral notes.

It’s smooth, aromatic and perfect for evenings when you want the ritual, not the buzz. It's €9.50 per sleeve, in Nespresso boutiques and online at Nespresso.ie.

Art and language

We adore work that says a lot with very little, and that’s exactly what Johanna Legnar does. Based in Clonakilty, her graphic art tackles big themes like the Irish language, climate change, and neurodivergence through clean, typographic design. Everything is thoughtfully produced, too: eco inks, recycled paper, plastic-free packaging.

Minimal, meaningful, and made with a conscience. My kind of wall art. Cards are €2.40 and her wall art, unframed, starts at €12. Find out more at Legnar-design.com.

In the picture

We love Sarah Cronin’s work for how instantly Irish it feels. Based on the west coast, she’s a self-taught artist best known for painting iconic landscapes inside their county outlines.

The Cork ones are the best, though, obviously. Sarah works in watercolour, with some digital pieces too, plus commissions and live wedding painting. You can see more at Sarahcroninart.com.

We heart this

Yes, Valentine's Day is this month. Here's an idea for a little love, minus the commitment. This pink and red faux-fur heart check cushion from TK Maxx is joyful, soft and slightly ridiculous — in the best way.

It adds instant warmth and colour to a sofa or bed and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It's €19.99, see Tkmaxx.ie.

Energy boost

This month, with January finally firmly in the rearview mirror, I'm all about going for slow and steady changes, and Zest Active fits neatly into that mindset.

One sachet in the morning, no drama. It’s designed for busy lives and supports energy, immunity, muscle and mental performance without adding another thing to your to-do list; €34.95 from pharmacies, health shops, and online at Ie.reviveactive.com.
