Garden Events: Dates for your diary

  • Carrigtwohill Flower and Garden Club will host Klaus Laitenberger to give a practical demonstration on how to make raised beds using a variety of recycled materials on Sunday, October 5, from 10.30am to 2.30pm. This will be held in the Men’s Shed outdoor area behind the Carrigtwohill Community Centre. The cost will be €10 with light refreshments served.
  • The East Cork Flower Club will meet on Monday, October 6, at 7.30pm in St John The Baptist NS, Dungourney Rd, Midleton (P25 P028). The speaker is John Murphy, of Murphy’s Pharmacy, on the topic of everything health. All are welcome. Visitors €7. Tea/coffee is included. The event includes a members’ competition.
  • Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will hold its next meeting on Monday, October 6, in Cobh Community Centre at 7pm. Jim Wilson, wildlife lecturer and ornithologist, will give a talk on winter birds of the Great Island. Visitors welcome. Admission €10.
  • The East Cork Flower Club, Midleton, will host speaker John Murphy of Murphy's Pharmacy on the topic of 'Everything Health'. It takes place on Monday, October 6 at 7.30pm in St John the Baptist NS, Dungourney Road, Midleton (P25 P028). All Welcome. Visitors €7. Tea/coffee included.
  • Fermoy Flower and Garden club will host Siobhan O'Mahony of O'Mahonys Gardens, Ballylanders, to give a talk and slide show on Tuesday, October 7 at 8pm in the Adair Hall. All welcome, visitors €10.
  • Skibbereen Flower and Garden Club with The Flower Basket, Clonakilty, are holding a demonstration by Edith Kakuk in Abbeystrewery Hall, Skibbereen, on Wednesday, October 8 at 8.15pm. Please come along and bring a friend.
  • Ardfield Rathbarry Gardening Club will host a talk on "Saving Seeds from your Garden" with Christian of Wolf Seeds on Thursday, October 9 at 8pm in the Parish Hall. Tea/coffee, home baking and raffle. All are welcome.
  • Macroom Flower & Garden Club will host a Gardening Talk with a guest speaker from Future Forests Garden Centre on Thursday, October 9 at Coolcower House, Macroom (P12 E135). Visitors welcome non-members €10. Further details 087-9821708.
  • Kinsale Garden & Flower Club meets on Thursday, October 9 at 8pm in The Friary Centre (P17 WR88) for a demonstration by Malcom Kitt titled 'Autumn Twilight'. Visitors welcome €10. Includes refreshments and a raffle.
  • Tantalus Nursery in Kinsale (next to The Spaniard pub) is having an Autumn Plant Sale with 10% off all plants on Saturday, October 11 from 10am to 5pm. 
  • Mount Congreve Gardens in Waterford is to run its new Guardians of the Gardens: Interactive Dragon Trail this Halloween, running from Friday, October 24, to Monday, October 27, with final entry at 5pm every day. The fully outdoor experience brings 12 giant animatronic dragons to life across the estate’s historic woodlands, lawns, and garden paths. As the sun sets, Mount Congreve will be transformed into an atmospheric and immersive dragon realm.
