Healthy option

We recently bumped into the co-founder of Shikkui Europe, Jody Brooks, while he was working on the new Realm interior design space in the Dublin Docklands. Brooks is a specialist in Shikkui products — a line of natural traditional and innovative Japanese products with slaked lime as a key component.

One of its signature products is a lime-based plaster which can improve indoor air quality and health by regulating and reducing humidity, absorbing carbon dioxide and removing bad odours.

It is antibacterial and antiviral, helps prevent fungal and mould growth and repels dust, making it an ideal choice for those with allergies. It is odour-free, zero-VOC and nontoxic so it's a healthy and sustainable choice. Contact jody@shikkui-europe.com or see Shikkui-Europe.

Bedtime

From duvets and mattresses to spare beds and pillows, Jysk is an affordable option for getting your bedroom guest-ready. Update your bedlinen with their new duvet cover sets in dark sand and brown or cosy flannelette as autumn approaches or stick with classics just as this fresh striped Sheila double duvet set (€59.99). See Jysk.

Light fantastic

Anita Reynolds’ Irish Woodland Lanterns are a little bit special as she uses leaves from the native Irish trees in her garden to make them, as well as the Gaelic printer’s type once used by her father and grandfather in their printing business to press the name of each tree into the clay.

Reynolds used a Foras na Gaeilge grant to translate and print the folklore of each tree into Irish and English and it’s a lovely touch. The lanterns are created in earthenware so you can put a votive candle inside; €80. See AnitaReynoldsArtandDesign.

Coffee cups

Offering everything from cool clocks to gorgeous glassware, and squishy sofas to ravishing rugs, Pieces in Dublin’s trendy Stoneybatter is a great place to pick up stylish items for your home. Add a little joy to your morning coffee with the ceramic Rosario espresso cup set by Qué Rico (€15.50). Designed in Belgium and inspired by the vibrant lifestyle of Spain, the cups feature swirling patterns and sunny colour combinations. Sold in sets of two. See Pieces.

Curtain up

If you are looking for curtains, blinds or shutters then WildThings Interiors is a good place to start. They’ll help you with the whole process, from designing, custom making and fitting the perfect finishing touches to your home. Choose from curtains with deep pleats, French pleats or cartridge pleats or how about their ceiling-to-floor curtains on discreet rails that can be fixed to the ceiling for a streamlined look? They can find solutions for even the trickiest of spaces such as bay windows, guaranteeing a ‘designer look for less’. See Wildthings.

Preppy choice

A preppy style is a great direction for children’s rooms — think Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, country clubs and tennis, outdoorsy style with a dash of old library and country manor. DFS has just released two new styles of bed as part of its Joules collaboration. The Dorothy and Digby beds are nostalgic yet modern and playful. Handmade by experts in Yorkshire, England, each design features a statement headboard upholstered in striped woven fabric, with coordinating plain fabric on the side and foot rails.  Available exclusively at DFS, prices range from €715. See Dfs.
